The Big Premiere

029

Okay everyone, it’s that time we’ve all been waiting for…… the big premiere of our family on the Food Nanny! Our episode was chosen to kick off the whole series! I’ve seen a very rough draft of our episode and I think the production team has done a fabulous job with this show. The whole series will be excellent. The look and style is very chic and modern. Liz is a great host. The show is fast paced and fun to watch, not to mention helpful to families looking for ways to improve family meal times.

I’m not going to lie to you, I do have a few butterflies in my stomach about the whole thing. It’s a little surreal to think of yourself, your home, and your whole family being broadcast on national television, but I’m trying not to feel self conscious about the few times that we look and sound very awkward. And I’m trying not to worry about what people will think about our parenting skills or lack thereof. I’m just going to sit back and enjoy this unique experience.

In all seriousness though, being on this show has had a very profound effect on our family. We’ve truly taken to heart the advice given to us in the show and it has made a huge difference in our home. We have  regular family meals around the dinner table now. Eating together has become a pleasant experience for all of us. We actually look forward to dinner time, place mats and all!  I’ve seen all kinds of immediate positive outcomes from these family meals and I know that there will be long term ones as well.

Just so everyone knows, the boys manners, although not perfect by any means, have improved greatly, but the best part about our family meals is the conversations we are having together. I can’t tell you how much I’ve learned about my kids since we started doing this. Dinner time has provided some prime teaching moments as well as some good laughs. I’ll never go back to the way we used to do things. So a huge thanks to Liz and the whole Food Nanny team! Thanks for giving me that huge kick in the pants that I needed to remind me of things I’ve always been taught were important.  Also, a special thanks to Kendall who produces the show and asked us to participate. I’m so grateful Kendall. You do a good thing!

So…..the show airs several different times on BYU television. For Direct TV people that’s channel 68 here in Utah and 374 nation wide. For Comcast that’s channel 21 here in Utah, check your local listings for other states. If you have Dish Network you’ll have to check your local listings as well. For the rest of you, here is link to the different states and stations that either carry BYU TV or stations who download shows from BYU and broadcast them on your basic cable. Anyone with satellite will of course get the channel.

Our episode airs for the first time on February 4th at 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. MST, and then again on Saturday, February 6th at 11:00 a,m. One more time on February 11th at 6:00 p.m. The whole series will be good so I encourage you to set a season pass or plan to watch on Thursday nights at 8:00. Times will vary in different states.

If you don’t have a TV or cable, BYU will stream the show live from this website. If there is anyone who is still living in the dark ages and can’t watch using any of these methods let us know and we’ll send you a DVD. If you want to skip us all together we won’t be offended, but you’ll be missing out!

Here’s some teaser photos. Just a glimpse of what you’ll see on Thursday night……

That's pretty awesome!

This is must see TV! I can't wait to watch it. I clicked the link for streaming, though and "page not found" - is that because it's not on yet, or I'm a spaz, or something else? we don't have cable...

Also I think I need a follow up post about dinnertime conversation (or maybe I will learn this from your show?) We have dinner together, but I'm not sure anyone really looks forward to it... our conversation is a lot of "please don't do that" and "hey - no potty language!"

So excited to see the big debut on Thursday. My friend a star. I guess that means I'm kind of famous too. Kendall, way to go in producing the show, a much needed topic in todays world. Can't wait to see my favorite twin boys!

Kris, the link works from my computer so maybe try it again and see what happens. If the link doesn't work just go to www.byu.tv and you should get it.

As far as conversation goes, we have a little question box that we ask a question from each night. This gets things going and then the kids tend to keep talking from there. It's really great!

I went to set it up to record and I couldn't find BYU TV. I have Dish - does that mean I won't get it? You do look so beautiful in those photos. You dress like that every night, eh? Fancy. :)

Yeah I'm so excited!! And by the way, your family looks so cute! You all are dressed so nice and you look so stylish, Jill (but where was the surprise in that any ways?) Love ya! Can't wait to see it!

Oh I just set my TiVo to record! How exciting! I can't wait to see it! Is it weird that we speak weekly, but I've never actually seen you "speak"? This will be a great event for me!!

I tried the link again and it worked, so apparently I was just being a spaz :)

I can't wait to see it!

I'm going to try so hard to watch it online, but I might be requesting a DVD if I turn out to be one of those dark ages freaks.

I'm so excited to see this since you guys are practically one of my favorite families ever, and I think the association might make me famous.

I've already started insisting that Tim and I have family dinner together (and family home evening, which usually consists of snuggling while watching House... I suppose that will change when the wee one arrives) - I think it's important. Good job with the transformation... I'm sure I'll be calling you at some point for tips.

WOW!!!! We just all sat huddled around the computer and watched it. Bryn is so proud to be famous now (you know, having famous relatives and all), and is now setting her mind to getting our own family on TV. The show was fabulous! I loved the part where Jeffery asked for an extra napkin. I could go on and on, but I'll just say is was very exciting to watch. Y'all are natural movie stars. And yes, I will be your agent.

Laura said...

Bravo! You guys could have your own reality show. I too thought it was very polite of Jeffrey to request an extra nose-picking napkin. Now... tell me the truth... was her pizza better than Mike's? Because I doubt it...

But the cookies looked like heaven. Did you get the recipe?

Jill, that was awesome! Will you post her recipes - they looked so good!

I had to laugh because I sat down at the computer to watch it right after feeding all my kids a bowl of cereal for dinner! Very timely and inspiring!

Loved the episode. What I want to know is, is it still working? They seemed like really great ideas, and I really like your question box idea too.

You and Michael both have amazingly blue eyes! Hollywood material for sure. The children were better than any childhood acters/actresses I can remember, even Shirley Temple! We loved watching the show and recommended it to all who would answer their phones!

We weren't home last night, but we recorded the episode, and I watched it tonight. So, so fun to see all of you on TV! My heart almost broke though when Jonathan's plate was taken away. I think you all were (and are) fabulous!

I can't believe I missed this. Sounds intriguing. Our meal times are such a joke.
