The Story Lady

1202190634

I mentioned earlier that Mary Kate came down with strep throat last week just as we were planning to leave for our vacation. She was terribly sick with fever, chills, an incredibly sore throat…poor girl.

Because we had nothing else planned (we were supposed to be on vacation after all), I decided to spend the day watching movies with my so-sick girl. It was actually quite a relaxing and enjoyable day. We watched some Jane Austen of course, a few musicals, and I introduced her to one of my all-time favorites…You’ve Got Mail.

I love this movie.

Mike once asked me…if I wasn’t living the life I was now, what other kind of life would I want to be living, and I had an easy answer for him…I would be Kathleen Kelly in You’ve Got Mail.

Now don’t get me wrong, I love my own life and wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world, but I totally dig that darling Shop Around the Corner. I would love to own and operate a children’s book shop. I love Kathleen Kelly’s sassy, short hair cut, classic wardrobe, and her Story Lady hat. I sometimes dream about living on the Upper West Side in a beautiful brownstone just like hers…so cozy and sweet (and incredibly expensive I’m sure).

But…there would definitely be a few changes to Kathleen Kelly’s life if I was in charge…

First of all, I would pick Greg Kinnear over Tom Hanks any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

And… I would all-together skip the tragic part were my perfect little store had to close because of big, bad Fox Books…

BOO! (I always cry when she closes the door to her store for the last time, so sad!)

I would so keep the twinkle lights at Christmas time though…

I totally have the exact same feelings about your choice. Totally! Whenever I'm just a little sad John says, "Don't cry, Shopgirl."
PS do you know which book she is reading at story time? I do :)

I'm in secret love with Greg Kinnear. I guess it's not a secret anymore.
