My Two Dads

Those of you who are really old, like me, will remember My Two Dads, that late 80’s, NBC sitcom with Paul Riser and Gary somebody. If you’ll remember, two men (Michael and Joey) suddenly get custody of the teenage daughter of a women they were both in love with many years earlier. I remember thinking Nicole, (their daughter) was so lucky to have two dads all to herself (and the coolest 80’s wardrobe ever!)

These last few weeks I’ve been living like Nicole (minus the 80’s wardrobe, thankfully). I’ve had two dads all to myself and it’s been wonderful.

Last week, my awesome father-in-law came and stayed with us for a few days and helped us with some home improvement projects. Dave is as handy as they come. Back in the day, he went out and bought himself a how-to book, and then built the house Mike grew up in almost single handedly. While he was with us he fixed a few twin-destroyed items that I thought for sure would cost us a fortune to replace. After his magic handy work they look just like new. Who knew that auto body putty was such a great concoction?

Dave claims he likes to do little fixer-upper projects, and maybe that’s true, but we worked him hard and he never complained. Thanks so much Dave, we loved having you here and would take you anytime. (And you don’t even have to do any work when you come next time).

Then this week, my Dad came for a visit and helped me with even more home improvement projects. Yeah!

My dad is also a handy guy and very meticulous too. We had all kinds of touch up painting to do and dad got right to work. Our basement now looks like it was painted yesterday; not a nick or ding in sight (my upstairs too). Dad came just in time, because Jonathan took it upon himself to kick our ginormous, heavy TV speaker over into the opposite wall and made a huge mess of things. (Those boys owe me so much money!)

Don’t worry, Dad to the rescue!

Dad was also cheerful and non complaining while he slaved away. We loved having him here as well, and want him back anytime.

My two dads are the best, way better than TV dads Michael and Joey who didn’t seem very handy at all.  The three of us accomplished a lot of work and my house is looking ship-shape, almost like new.

Dad…Dave…thank you so much for giving of your time and energy in our behalf. It’s VERY MUCH appreciated. And we love you both very much!

What a great post, Jill. One cannot have too many "great" dads. Dave was very happy to spend time fixing things up there. I think he was sad he had to come home so quickly as I always have a list!

Caught up on your posts this morning Jill! Loved them all. The one Mike and your mom posted on your birthday made me cry. You really are the best. Loved the one about Kathleen Kelly. I need to go watch that show again, and obviously, couldn't agree more about having two fabulous dads!
