Even though it added some burdensome trekking weight and also caused a nice, itchy sweat ring around my neck, it was worth it to bring my camera along and employ it. I think I captured some good visual pioneer spirit along the way…
I loved the puffy clouds in the sky, especially those that would cover the sun from time to time. The pioneers must have loved a good cloud cover to provide periotic relief from the relentless heat.
Trek daughter Megan, a girl full of happy energy that never quits, a good commodity on a pioneer Trek
Our decent down gravel hill, the steepest part of the actual Mormon trail. Quite treacherous actually.
A few trekkers, including our Spencer, brought along a harmonica. Hearing their squeaky sounds along the trail greatly added to the authentic pioneer atmosphere.
I call this shot ‘Contemplation.’ (is she contemplating the miles and miles of sage brush that never ends or something more profound?)
We did see some wildlife. Antelope, prairie dogs, pot guts, and this here jack rabbit
Beginning of the women’s pull- a Pioneer Trek tradition, and a good one
The Harding family women – we’ve got this in the bag
Me looking my pioneer best (I do like the fact that there is no hair doing or make-up required on Trek)
My kind, and devoted friend Belinda stayed up late the night before to make these cooling neck wraps for my family to use on Trek. They were awesome and made trekking through the sweltering heat much, much more bearable. Love you Belinda!
A delivery from the Pony Express bringing letters from real Mas and Pas back home. These handsome riders caused quite the stir among the young ladies in the camp.
Madison Larson (who joined us from her new home in Fairview) and her bestest friend Keyanna taking a break
People were taking naps any where they could find a place to lay their heads
Trekkers..over and out!

I love these photos! You're very talented. And, Jill, I want to let you in on a little secret me and the hippies have been keeping:
There is no makeup or hair-doing required in real life. ;-)
Yuck!
Yep these photos are AWESOME! and thanks for your thoughts in your more recent post. You seemed to honestly portray how the experience was for you (the good and not so good . . .) But I'm glad it was an overall good experience. Also I'm sure your family was lucky to have you as I was lucky to have you as my Ma so many years before :)
Jill, these pictures are amazing. I love the clouds so much. I always like to pick a favorite and for this series, I pick 'Contemplation'. It is perfect in every way- mood, composition, and subject.
