Because of a very generous neighbor and a kind, willing brother (thanks a ton Cherish and Jeff), Mike and I were able to slip away for a couple days to celebrate our anniversary. We didn’t do anything super fancy, just hung out together in quiet bliss. It was very nice.
To kick off the festivities Mike presented me with a little token of his affection…A KINDLE!
I was thrilled. I’ve been wanting one for quite sometime, just haven’t been able to bring myself to make the purchase. Now that I have one I’m feeling very hip and cool. Kindle’s are a pleasure to read from. I would highly recommend one to anyone who reads.
Also…lest you think I didn’t give Mike an anniversary gift…no worries. Mike was presented with three new pairs of basketball shorts (long ones because his were dorky short) along with a promise that I wouldn’t complain about his basketball playing for the rest of 2011. (I’m just hoping I have the strength to make good on that promise. I know this is shocking, but sometimes I’ve been known to complain about Mike’s basketball obsession. But not this year!)
Happy Anniversary Mike, live it up while you can!
Anyway…we managed to cram quite a few activities into just two days…
Check out the dress I wore to the movies, and who I’m going to Prom with this year.
A visit to Gourmandise, the closest thing to a real French bakery I’ve seen in the states. They have all these amazing, fancy desserts, but my favorite things are the peanut butter cookies. I’d kill for the recipe.
Hotel accommodations…
It was cold outside so the fire felt nice. The stone dog was nice too. She helped me not to miss Winnie too much.
The pool was heated to 85 degrees. Just how I like it.
In the courtyard…
Why do my eyes always turn to little slits when I smile?
And then… dinner at a famous little SLC dive known as the Red Iguana …
I’ve been wanting to try this place for a long time and it did not disappoint. (Although, my mom told me that my Uncle Paul took someone there once and a cockroach fell from the ceiling onto his lunch)
Mole sauce…where have you been all my life? This stuff is a serious taste explosion in the mouth. I found the exact recipe for this Mole sauce online and I’m going to try making it at home. So dang good!
Great décor too! Loved the peace sign made out of Christmas ornaments hanging just above John Lennon’s face.
I think it should be know also, that during this little trip of ours, I watched the BYU basketball game with Mike in the sports lounge of the hotel over Crudité and ice water. You’ll be happy to learn that I was patient and nice about it too. (Having my new Kindle with me didn’t hurt the situation) And…luckily for the remainder of our anniversary trip, BYU won.
It was a peaceful two days just hanging out together, not saying much but enjoying the simple things. It was a pleasant anniversary celebration. I’m just happy that I’m married to someone I like to hang out with. Love you babe!

Wow Jill, this looks like an amazing weekend. I'm dying to know what hotel you stayed at. I don't recognize it, but it looked like you stayed pretty local. Please share.
Marsha...we stayed at the Little America downtown. The courtyard pictures are at the Grand America across the street. We didn't stay there because it was twice the price.
Looks like heaven. I can't remember how to relax, but I'd sure like the chance to try!
Really, you like the kindle? Maybe I should borrow somebody's.
My eyes do the same thing, but it's usually just one of them that slits, making me look a little (ahem) *special* in photos.
You look beautiful!
Your prom dress is so fab. You guys know how to throw an anniversary! I'm going to have Peter read this post for homework. :)
Happy Anniversary babe. It was a fun trip. Love you.
