On Easter Sunday my mom and dad hosted an exciting and different kind of egg hunt for the grandkids….
….each kid was allowed to find 5 eggs that were expertly hidden in the backyard….
….the eggs were filled with exciting things such as… a few dollar bills or a stack of coins, a coupon for a package of fruit snacks, a coupon for a hug and kiss from various aunts or uncles in the room, or a piece of paper with an invitation written on it to do something special all alone with Grandma or Grandpa. For example, Mary Kate got an invitation to go with Grandma to lunch and to see the beautiful flowers at Temple Square. How awesome is that! Jonathan got an invitation to go with Grandpa to Pace’s to get a rainbow slush.
It was Jeffrey though, that hit the mother load…inside one of his eggs was an invitation to go with Uncle Jeff to the church parking lot to drive his brand new SUV. If any of you know my son Jeffrey, you know that there is absolutely nothing that would excite him more. I wish I had video taped his reaction when I read him that strip of paper. He freaked out!
Here he is with Uncle Jeff just before his wild ride. Look at that grin on his face. His dream were about to come true.
Jeffrey has mad skills behind the wheel. I think he was born with them. Uncle Jeff just pushed the gas and let Jeffrey have full control of the steering wheel. That kid can steer like a pro! He can even park perfectly between the lines. He likes to drive wild and crazy though. After two minutes Jonathan (who begged to come along for the ride) and I, had to get out an watch from the sidewalk due to some serious motion sickness….
Uncle Jeff even let the boys play with the sun roof and all the various controls in the car. I seriously think it was the highlight of Jeffrey’s life, second only to the time he got to drive around the block with Uncle Brad. Jeffrey is already planning the next time he will drive with Uncle Jeff at the parking lot. I’m not sure any of our stomachs can take it though. Sorry about that motion sickness Uncle Jeff! Your the bomb though to give Jeffrey the thrill of his life.
Thanks mom and dad for that awesome egg hunt. My kids are incredibly lucky to have grandparents like you. I wish I could come to Temple Square with you, but Mary Kate has forbidden it and Jonathan says there is no way I can come to Pace’s with he and Grandpa. He says maybe Jeffrey can come though, since he let him come in the car with Uncle Jeff.

wow, how fabulous!! It sounds like a memorable event for everyone. Your family is super cool, dare letting a little boy drive the car!! yes, I still remember your son obsessing over my HOT KIA van a few years ago. Maybe he will be a Nascar driver!
That sounds so amazing! I LOVE that idea!!! Wow way more memorable, exciting, fun than candy! That's so awesome! And yes Jeffrey looked like he had a total blast!
What a great twist on an Easter Egg hunt! I adore good ideas! Plus....your whole entire easter just looks outstanding! Glad you had a fun weekend.
(Oh, and that's illegal by the way...:)
Wish I could have been there to watch Jeffrey drive. Tell him I will let him take me for a drive next time we are in Utah.
I always love reading about you and the kids. Keep those posts coming.
That is a great way to do a easter egg hunt. We just might steel your idea. That's how all my best traditions and ideas emerge. I get them from other people. We don't have our hunt in conjunction with Easter, we do it on another weekend. We just call ours a spring egg hunt. Thanks for the great idea.
