Sorry about this photo Lance, I just couldn’t resist. Best farmer tan pose ever!
Back when Mike and I were dating (seemingly eons ago), Mike’s little brother Lance was only 9 years old and worshiped the ground Mike walked on. Little 9 year old Lance took a liking to me as well. We were good buddies. After a while, Lance got it into his head that Mike was taking much, much too long getting around to proposing and decided to take matters into his own hands. One sunny afternoon little Lance trotted up to me with a sheepish grin on his face, presented me with a tiny, pink velvet covered box and told me that it was a special delivery from my beloved. This is what I found inside…
…Lance had written me a little note (supposedly from Mike). I love the little drawing of lips flanked by love hearts at the bottom…a sweet touch, don’t ya think? The ring was a old plastic mood ring that was missing the stone. As you can see, I loved this so much that I still have it. Little brother Lance was the first to express to me that he wanted me to be a part of his family. I’ll love him forever for that. And it’s hilarious too.
Today is little brother Lance’s birthday although he’s not so little anymore. Today he is what…25…26? I can’t keep track anymore. Lance has grown up, graduated from high school, served a mission, graduated from college with honors, joined the search and rescue team, built his own furniture, taught rock climbing classes, explored many a darkened cave, honed his photography skills, become an expert fryer of doughnuts, popped the question to his own bride (better ring this time), officially adopted a little boy (who is adorable), and is leaving us this summer for his biggest adventure yet; he has been accepted at Boston University Medical school. Soon we will be calling him ‘Dr. Lance.’
Lance will be a excellent Dr. because he is good at everything, especially at being an uncle. My kids adore him because he’s more fun than just about everyone. I’ll prove it…
No that is not a bald cap, he really shaved his head for this Halloween costume.
…and if you’re having trouble with a complicated jigsaw puzzle. Lance is the guy to call!
Happy Birthday Lance. We love you!

He is one crazy cat. I'd never heard about that ring story. Hilarious! Happy Birthday indeed to our little bro.
Hee hee... he is silly. So glad he's my brother - thanks for writing what we all think of him!
Love you little buddy. When you get out here, we will watch "Lambert, the Sheepish Lion."
What can I say...?
It's now officially my favorite farmers tan pose as well. Dang I make pasty white look good!
Thank you for your kind words. I'm glad that I proposed to you all those years ago. I don't know what we'd do without you in the family!
Wow Jill~ You thought of things and had pictures that even I was amazed at! We do like Lance and will miss him terribly and are happy he will have someone to watch Lambert with~in Boston~in his spare time!
What can I say my man is the shiz! In all seriousness I couldn't have gotten better. Jill I'm glad your good at blogging cause right now I'm a pretty pathetic wife! This awesome, thanks for posting it! Love you Lance!
One of my favorite memories of Lance was at the Dickey Christmas party at Grandma Dickey's house when he had to have been around 10 years old. He sat at Grandma's piano, and started playing and broke out in a great opera voice! It was hilarious, and surprisingly good as well! I knew from then on that Lance was one awesome cousin!!
I'm going to pass these pictures around town so that people get a sense of what's about to hit them. The East Coast will never be the same.
Happy birthday Pancer.
