Happy Birthday Kimberly!

laura's wedding etc 072

This is a good day because today, 35 years ago, my sister-in-law Kim was born. She is married to Mike’s older brother Darin. Kim and I have known each other for over 14 years and I totally love her. She lives clear in Pennsylvania, so I miss her something awful, but at least we have the telephone, which we utilize from time to time.

Kim is someone I truly look up to. I know that sounds a bit cliché, but it’s true none the less. She is a beautiful person inside and out. She’s a strong person too, a quality that I much admire and hope that I can emulate.

I love Kim’s laugh. It’s my favorite ever. It’s contagious. Long ago, when I lived in Minnesota and Mike and I were dating long distance, he would make me tapes to listen to. On one of the tapes, Kim (who was just newly married into the family) was telling a story about a funny wedding gift she and Darin had received. She was laughing hysterically about this cracked, fire-engine red, ugly as sin, vase and I remember thinking, “One of the reason I’ve got to marry Mike is because I want that girl for a sister-in-law.”

Now I have her and I’m so glad. Thanks Kim, not just for being my sister-in-law, but for being my friend. I love you.

Happy Birthday.

Ahh, thanks, Jill! I'm so glad we get to be family and friends at the same time! And I know when you heard about the red vase, you secretly wished we would regift it to you for your wedding! HAAAAAA, HAAAAA! Thanks for reminding me of that! It was so funny! I'll laugh with you anytime! Love you!

You both look gorgeous in that picture. I'm grateful for both of you. You've both taught me so much through the years that I've moved you up from SIL to more on the level of mentor/guru/wicked awesome lady. Happy birthday Kim!

She is truly one of the gemmiest gems in history. You should get her going on word play. She stops breathing I tell you. What a goof!

And also, one of my heroes in so many, many ways.
