Harmless Glasses of Chocolate Milk?

All morning the boys begged and begged for some chocolate milk. I finally gave in. I poured the milk, mixed in the chocolate, gave them each a straw and went to make my bed. When I got back, they had disappeared and this is what they left in their wake!

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

See why I hesitate to feed them? It takes them less than 2 minutes to leave this kind of mess and twenty minutes for me to clean it up.

I just don't understand? Is it my parenting abilities, or lack thereof? Just tell me the truth, because if it is, then I only have myself to blame.

(Notice Winnie, she's always hanging around to see what the slobs leave behind. Smart dog. There's usually plenty!)

Winnie totally looks like a stuffed animal! It's so darn cute!

Cups with lids are the best! Or the cups with straw holes. My girl spills almost everything I give her, so, I know how frustrating that can be!

Yeah boys are the best at doing things like that, well I guess kids in general. Caleb can sure make a big mess if I turn my head for a second. Your boys were smart to leave ;) Maybe one day they will have the desire to clean up after themselves. It's totally not your parenting skills. I'm sure every mom goes through that!

It's your parenting. Calvin would never take a perfectly good cup of milk and dump it slowly onto the counter. Oh wait, he did that this morning, all the while maintaining solemn eye-contact with me as I screamed punishments at him if he continued in his current course of action and lunged toward the kitchen.

I love that you stopped to take a picture of your "daily destruction". Try walking into your kitchen just today (right after I gave him a sweet post on my blog) to see your son literally stomping on a bag of tortilla chips happily yelling "it sounds so cool"...like you, I sometimes have to stop and think "how did I get here"? Or "who is in charge of this house"?

BTW, I seriously thought winnie was a stuffed toy! She's a treasure.

Hi Jill! I just got caught up on your blog, I forget you have it. I loved the Halloween costumes!! especially tweedledee and tweedledum. That was too funny. As for the milk (etc)... it is not your parenting! It makes me not want to mop the floor (or clean anything for that matter) because a) the cleaner my house is, the more mad I get about the crumbs & spills, and b) there is no point anyway (crumbs & spills!) Sorry I am no help, but I hear you!

Oh . . . kids! Jacob takes particular delight in dropping tortilla chips one by one to the floor and stomping on them. He then sweetly asks for more chips. The crazy thing is, sometimes I think, "He's really going to eat these ones," so I give him a few more only to turn around at the crunching sounds and delighted grin on his face. At least he's found ways to find joy in the simple things in life! :-)
