If I’m being honest, it has been a rather bleak winter. I will not be one bit sorry to see it go. There has been much sadness over the death of my two friends (along with some other particular challenges) and the weather hasn’t helped one bit; sickness everywhere, coldest temperatures in 50 years and inversions enough to make anyone glum. To make matters worse, Jonathan just now informed me (in all seriousness) that white blood cells are attacking the earrings in his friend Melody’s ears so she can’t get them out. (??????) This is terrible!
It’s a good thing Valentine’s Day comes in the middle of winter. I know that some people have a love/hate relationship with Valentine’s Day (some just a hate relationship), but personally, I love it!
This was a particularly good Valentine’s Day. Mike and I woke up in the morning to find that our children had stayed up late the night before making plans to “heart attack” our bedroom door. We woke up to this…
How sweet is that! What a perfect way to start off love day.
The hearts were decorated in various ways. Many hearts had messages written on them. Here are a few of the more choice ones….
Isn’t Mike looking smart in his bow tie? I think that’s his wallets he’s holding. Maybe he is taking me out to fancy dinner? No, he is not smoking a cigarette, he is saying “I love you, Jill,” and I am responding with an emphatic “me too!” I particularly like my accessories in this drawing (necklace and overflowing purse). I look like I’m ready to be taken out for a nice dinner, don’t you think? It makes me happy to see that Jeffrey views us as two people who love each other.
Here is another of Jeffrey’s renditions of Mike and I. Jeffrey is paying particular attention to detail here. Notice Mike’s arm hair.
This heart was a personal favorite. It made me happy to know that my daughter looks up to me as her #1 example. We went to a Young Women’s event just the other night where most of the girls indicated that Taylor Swift was their #1 example. Good grief, Taylor Swift?! This does put a little more pressure on me though. I need to do a better job of being a worthy example. I mean, I’ve got Taylor Swift to contend with!
This was another favorite. MK is right; what would we do without Mike’s sense of humor to carry us through? He is the comic relief we so desperately need at times. Thank goodness for him.
This one was from Jonathan. I truly think he meant what he wrote. It melts my heart!
After our traditional Valentine’s day dinner (we had KFC this year, could I be more lazy?) we dug into our traditional Valentine’s bags. More love notes spilled forth….
To me from Jonathan (more heart melting)
Mike made MK’s Valentine’s day with a gift certificate to Forever 21. She squealed with happiness.
And my Valentine did not disappoint me either. Love this beautiful necklace! Thank you babe! You always know just what I want.
There was a lot of love going around this household yesterday. It was just what our family needed as a little pick-me-up in the middle of this bleak winter. Even Winnie sat back luxuriously and soaked in all the love…
I hope everyone had a fantastic Valentine’s Day. Like this dog here.

Well, it has been a bleak winter indeed, but Melody's white-blood-cell attack is just the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back, isn't it.
I love how you make the holidays so special for your kids - I really need to just copy you.
I love, love, love your heart attack notes. I think Mike is wearing shorts in that one photo - I saw some hair on his legs, too.
This post makes me happy. We were discussing our summer plans and Bryn said, "make sure we're going to spend lots of time with Jonathon and Jeffrey." So there you have it: we all love you, too.
That pretty much melted my heart! Dani
