Feathers of Gratitude

turkeys 003

We often brush past Thanksgiving in our haste to enjoy Christmas, but I think that’s a shame. Just the name “Thanksgiving” is worth a serious mull over.

Through experience I’ve learned some lessons about the importance of gratitude. In my opinion…a grateful heart is one of the keys factors to a happy life. Living with an “attitude of gratitude” (not to sound too cliché) is of ultimate importance if your goal is satisfaction and contentment in life.

It is much easier to be grateful when life is humming along nicely, I realize that. But finding things to be grateful for in even the worst circumstances can make or break a person. I've seen it both ways, experienced it both ways.

I want my children to learn the importance of gratitude. I want them to grow up to be grateful people, because they truly have so much to be grateful for. We made gratitude turkeys for FHE last night. I loved seeing what things my kids wrote on their turkey feathers. There were still the more superficial things like toys and television, but I was happy to see more important things there too, such as God, healthy bodies, and education among the things they feel most grateful for.

As for me, these three kids are way up there on my list of things I’m most grateful for. They bring so much richness to my life.

I’m also grateful for all of you, my friends and family. I hope your Thanksgiving is most wonderful.

Much love,
Me

Those are cute! The ability to feel gratitude is one of the most important things I want to teach my kids b/c you are right, it's key to being happy here.

And really, what's better than a holiday where all you do is feel thankful and eat food? Best ever if you ask me.

That's a great idea. Maybe I'm stealing it.

I know it sounds cliche, but really, I am grateful for you and your family. You've saved my life (probably literally in times of college starvation) a hundred times. Love you all!
