Seasons Change

I’ve been wearing socks to bed to keep my toes warm, enjoying delicious peach pie made from the last of the season’s peaches, working on book reports and math worksheets with the boys, opting for long pants instead of shorts, and listening to my kids fight over which Star Wars character they get to be for Halloween.

Summer is long gone and fall is indeed upon us.

I love fall (my favorite season), but each year I feel like it passes much too quickly. I don’t savor it enough, and then it’s over. This year I want it to be different. I keep telling myself to relish and enjoy it more, but who am I kidding…I feel like I’m busier than ever before.

Got to slow down. Got to slow down. That’s my mantra these days.

Whenever I think of fall, this photograph always comes to mind…

It’s gotten a bit beaten up over the years, but it’s one of my all time favorites. My brother Andrew and I up in the Allen’s cherry tree (best climbing tree ever grown) on a crisp fall day. Obviously it was taken sometime back in the 70’s. Check out my outfit. Somehow my mom found time to sew me a new outfit for fall. How did she do that?

Today was Andrew’s birthday. He’s now 37 and I’m 38. We’re both pushing 40. Time has marched on without our permission, just like this fall season will march on in the same way. Time just keeps passing.

Got to slow down. Got to slow down.

I also feel like I need to tell myself to slow down. I love this time of year and it always seems to go more quickly than I'd like. Happy birthday to Andrew! And I love your homemade fall duds, Jill!

One of these days in the far distant future you won't tell yourself that you have to slow down. The body just goes ahead and does it without any promtinings. Enjoy the fast pace while you can.
