Conference Weekend

I love General Conference weekends. Not just because we get to have church in our pajamas, but for so many wonderful reasons.

I almost wish all weekends were Conference weekends.

A glimpse….

Uncle Paul spoke beautifully about adversity and how it can shape our characters for good. He and his family are going through some adversity of their own these days and he had some profound things to say on the subject of life’s challenges. All the Conference talks given were wonderful, but this one was my favorite…for obvious reasons.

The boys kept themselves quiet (mostly) by putting puzzles together. Then they labeled each puzzle so we would know what they were. (As if we couldn’t tell)

After Conference was over, we enjoyed a special treat. Our friends, the Costner’s (both Ryan and Lacey are from the South) came and cooked us a southern feast of fried chicken, fluffy biscuits, country gravy and mashed potatoes. I felt like Paula Deen as I helped Lacey cook….

The food was amazing! Lacey knows her way around a kitchen. I’m having her over more often!

I was in charge of dessert, so I  decided that a Strawberry and Chocolate Mousse Trifle was in order. It was a dessert befitting a perfect Conference weekend.

Sometimes I wish life had it’s own remote control. If it did, I would most certainly rewind this weekend and experience it all over again. Every bit of it.

Luckily I have a DVR and I recorded Conference. Now I can rewind at least that part of this weekend, and listen some more. I will too…because I love what I heard, I love what I felt. I love what I know to be true.

Each April, between sessions of Saturday Conference, Mary Kate’s piano teacher holds a recital where all her students perform a sacred solo of their choosing. Mary Kate chose for her song “I Know My Redeemer Lives.” As I listened to her perform I felt that she had picked the perfect song to express my own feelings about what Conference (and the gospel) is all about.

Have a listen…

I can’t wait until October!

WOW! Mary Kate played that so beautifully! I loved Conference, too, Jill, and am looking forward to listening to and reading the talks again. What a powerful weekend!

Bravo Mary Kate! That was beautiful.

Yes, your uncle Paul did great. I loved when he referenced the Crimson trail.

The food looks delicious. And I love the puzzle labeling. You guys put together a sick GC weekend (see how young and trendy I am?!?).

Looks like a bit of heaven. The food, the company, the music by Mary Kate and of course the spoken word by our living prophets. Uncle Paul's talk was very touching.

I am even more proud of Mary Kate than I am of Paul. You make me cry, Mary Kate. By the time I get home, you'll be better at the piano than I am. I think that will be wonderful.

Mary Kate, We listened to that recital clear down here in Zion! We all had our own little recital with you here in the trailer and it was indeed beautiful. The food looked delicious, the puzzles mind-invigorating, and conference was rejuvinating.
