The kids collectively decided that decent artwork at our house was in short supply, so they pulled out a thick stack of fresh white paper, boxes of markers, crayons, scissors, and rolls of tape and set to work creating their very own art gallery in our stair well. The project kept them busy for two solid days and I think it turned out quite lovely. Wouldn’t you agree?
Every inch of the wall was covered in colorful drawings, scenes from the life and times of MK, Jonathan and Jeffrey. While the kids were at school I sat on the steps and spent some quality time just studying each work of art. In doing so I got a pretty in depth glimpse into the minds and hearts of my kids. I liked what I saw. The saying is true…a picture truly speaks a thousand words.
For example…
…this is Jeffrey’s drawing of Grandma Jancie (sorry about the blurriness). He says grandma is happy in the pictures because she is out teaching the gospel…but then…
…this is Jeffrey’s drawing of himself. He says he is crying buckets of tears because he misses grandma while she’s out teaching the gospel. Don’t the child psychologists use art to help children process their feelings? I think we may have a little of that going on here.
I love a good art gallery, and I think this one is my favorite ever. If you want to come over and view it yourself there is a small fee…you must bring some blank paper, or a roll of tape because we’re fresh out.
p.s. We Skyped with mom and dad tonight and they are doing great. Still a little jet lagged, but they say that New Zealand is gorgeous. They love how the toilets flush, how the ice cream tastes and how the weather is warm. Christmas in summer should be interesting. Tomorrow they get their own car and will practice learning how to drive on the wrong side of the road. Ahhhhh!

I always enjoy this type of art gallery. We have several galleries as well as "coffee table art books" courtesy of our budding artists, too. I think provides much of this art provides therapy for the artist as well as the viewer!
Even more beautiful than that art gallery is two days of being occupied! Win. Win.
Your parents are adorable. I hope the time goes by fast for you, but maybe not for them. :)
Wow, such talent. You are all going to be psychiatrists when you grow up! I was happy to hear the update on your parents. Flushing toilets and ice cream will be a definite plus!
Words cannot describe how fabulous this art gallery is (especially if you figure 1,000 words/picture, you talking about A LOT of words). What a treasure trove!
I think I could contribute. The other day I drew picture of Lydia and she was so pleased that we hung it on the fridge. When Eric got home, Lydia rushed to show him my masterpiece and Eric replied "Oh how pretty! Did Paul draw that for you?" ahem.
Paul's wish for his birthday when he blew out the candles was that grandma would come back. *sniff* *sniff*
When they run out of wall space, tell them I am in serious need of some good art. I would pay top dollar (or around a dollar) for my own masterpieces.
I MAY have played "art wall" with my roommates IN COLLEGE. That's right. College. And it kept us busy for a lot longer than 2 days. It's an amazing activity. And I think it should become a staple decoration in your home. LOVE IT!!
The Louvre couldn't have been grander and I am sure the Louvre don't have three cute faces posing at the bottom of the staircase either.
Your family gets more refined and cultured by the moment as long as you keep the paper and the tape in supply. :)
I am so impressed that you Miss Organized, don't like clutter would allow your children to be creative and relish in their masterpiece. You are such a great mother. I love the idea, I think I might borrow it.
TOTALLY AWESOME!!!
