“Who I’d Be” – Junior High Auditorium – Admission is Free

MK's 9th grade drama showcase 013

It was on a whim that MK decided to sign up for 7th grade drama class with Mrs. Anna Porter, but it has turned out to be one of those small decisions that has had an enormous impact. Participating in her school drama program has been a wonderful experience for MK. From discovering new talents, to learning new skills, to making close friends, to building personal confidence, to learning to work hard, it’s all be good stuff. Lots of fun times and happy memories too!

This week was her last chance to perform on stage as a junior high school student. Mrs. Porter’s 9th Grade Productions Class put on their 2014 Drama Showcase on Thursday night. It was a fantastic program! The students acted out several different scenes from well known plays and musicals-- all centering around the theme “Who I’d Be.” There were scenes from Shrek- The Musical, Any Body for Tea?, The Sound of Music, Cinderella, Side Show, The Crucible, The Importance of Being Ernest, and last but not least, Pygmalion, in which MK played the role of Eliza Doolittle.

The student performers were fantastic. They made their audience laugh, cry and ponder.

And MK? She made my jaw drop. She was amazing in her role as one of my favorite characters of all time. Mrs. Porter made a perfect decision to cast Reid as Henry Higgins along side MK’s Eliza. Those two are well suited on stage and good friends off stage.

My favorite picture of the night…MK with the wonderful Mrs. Porter… a powerful teacher in a tiny package. She has done wonderful things for my girl, and as a parent, I will be forever grateful. I guarantee MK will remember her with gratitude and fondness all her life. Teachers are the best!

Fantastic!!! Megan, Sarah and I loved watching this. The girls were on the edge of their seats hoping for an on-stage kiss! Needless to say, they were disappointed. ;) Great job, Mary Kate!
