Happy Birthday to My Boys

IMG_3467

It was snowing outside when we woke up this morning. But on this day 9 years ago, the day my tiny boys arrived so quietly into world, it was warm and sunny.

My itty bitty babies, not even 10 lbs. together, barely had the lung capacity to breath let alone to cry out and alert the world to their arrival. In fact, the boys were so quiet and still for so long (they were using all their energy to finish growing outside of my belly) that we were completely stunned when they finally woke up. But wake up they most certainly did! They’ve been wide awake for almost 9 years and now and don’t we all know it!

For 9 years my life has been filled with the crazy, relentless energy of these two boys. Many days that energy has reduced me to a puddle of exasperation, exhaustion, and tears, but most days it has filled my life to capacity and made me more alive, more aware, and more focused. These boys have brought out the best and worst in me. What else are kids for, right?

I adore these two boys of mine. I can’t imagine what I would be without them. These days I’m soaking up all the love they still freely pour out on their mama because I know the day is not far away that it might not pour out so freely. I’ll blink and they will be teenagers. I don’t like this idea so much.

Can I still call them “my babies” until then? Probably not so much. I mean, look at them…

Their not so little anymore.

Happy Birthday my favorite boys! I love you!

*Lest you think my birthday cakes are the most boring in the world, I want you to know that I only do what I’m told. A Picnic cake was requested, so a Picnic cake was made. No frosting and frills for these boys!

Oh, how I love them!

Fact: If you know J & J, it is impossible to say "The Twins" without a huge smile on your face. Also, my favorite stories that Eric tells me are the ones that begin with, "So I was talking to Jill, and the twins...."

Happy Birthday, Boys! Hope you loved the picnic cake!
