My Favorite

In the Bleak Midwinter is possibly my favorite Christmas song (tied with Still, Still, Still). I’ve heard it sung by many artists, but my favorite version is this one sung by Sissel, the Norwegian singing sensation whose voice is out of this world, so ethereal and angelic. I love this arrangement too. She sang this with the Mormon Tabernacle choir several years ago when she was the guest artist at their annual Christmas concert. I was lucky enough to be there at that concert and this just blew me away. It’s a moment I will  never forget…

The words…

In the bleak midwinter,
Frosty wind made moan,
Earth stood hard as iron.
Water like a stone;

Snow had fallen, snow on snow,
Snow on snow, on snow
In the bleak midwinter
Long, long ago.

What shall I give Him,
Poor as I am?
If I were a shepherd,
I would bring a lamb;

If I were a wise man,
I would do my part;
Yet what I can,
    I can give Him:

Give my heart.

p.s. If you want another treat, after you’ve watched this one and Youtube gives you more options along the bottom, click on the video of Sissel singing Like and Angel Passing Through My Room.

Amazing!

Being the James Taylor devotee that I am, I’m also a fan of his version of In The Bleak Midwinter. You can listen to that here.

Ah - one of my best students singing so beautifully.

Why did Sissel have to hog beauty and talent? Man, that woman is amazing!

A couple of weeks ago for prelude at church I played 2 different versions of this song. I love it so much, and Sissel.
