Musings on Mother's Day

Here I am with the three little beings that make me a mom, which allows me to sit around all Mother's Day and be waited on hand and foot. (I wish)

I've used my "it's Mother's Day" card several times today to encourage good behavior, and surprisingly the kids have been pretty decent, even sitting all the way through church without having to be threatened or dragged out to the van. I can't think of a better Mother's Day present.

There have been many sweet posts to read today on the blogs. A few dedications to moms have actually brought tears to my eyes. Mom's really are incredible. I'm not trying to toot my own horn or anything, but moms are really great. They work hard and sacrifice so much. I know I'm forever in debt to my mama (see below post) and I'm grateful to all the other mothers who have influenced my life and made me who I am. Grandmas, aunts, my mother-in-law, neighbors, friends, friend's moms.....so many.

For me, being a mom brings with it many challenges that sometimes out weigh the joys, but there are those moments that I wouldn't trade for anything. Here are just a few.....

-Yesterday I was making the bed and Jeffrey came running in, jumped on the bed, gave me a big bear hug and a kiss and said, "I love you mom!" He then ran out of the room only to return moments later to say, "Mom, when you send me to my room, you're not my friend, but I still like you, okay."

-Today at church Jonathan asked, "Is it time for the Snack-er-ment, cuz I'm hungry!" I guess my teachings about the sacrament, and it's being a time for reverence and thoughts of Jesus haven't quite taken root.

-And a poem written by Mary Kate for me on this Mother's Day:

Mother, I love you
Mother, I really do
Your cleaning, your caring
I love you, I do.

I love to hear your gentle singing
I love to see you baking
I love to see you smile bright.

You care for me,
You listen to me,
I love when you're helping me be happy,
I do.

Whenever I see you,
You look so loving.

Mother I love you
Mother I really do.

Mary Kate, I'd love to see myself baking while smiling brightly and singing gently but, oh boy, I'm so not that kind of mom! But we can't all be perfect.

Happy Mother's Day moms!

What a sweet poem Mary Kate wrote about you. As long as that's how she views you, I'd say you're doing okay. We walked into church late because we were just getting back from Moab. We missed the sacrament which made me feel sad. After the meeting was over Joshua turned over to me and asked "when are we going to have the food?" I think I have a little teaching to do in that category too. Today was an emotional day for me. I didn't think it would be so hard to say goodbye to Spencer but I'm already bawling at everything. It will happen with Jonathan and Jeffrey before you know it. I know you're having a hard time believing right now that you might cry when they leave but you will.

That poem is the sweetest thing since sugar-coated donuts. Have I mentioned I love your perspective? I do. Happy Mother's Day Jill!

What a great post, Jill!! I'm loving each and every one of those little mommy blurbs. Patrick says he is officially changing the name to "snack-ra-ment" in his book. And I just love it when kids say things like that "send me to my room" thing. It's the only reason I make it through the day sometimes.

I hope you had an amazing mother's day!!

Someone once told me that grandkids are your reward for not killing your children. They really are great. Look at the cute and entertaining things they say. Hang in there, grandchildren are on the way for you too. I love you, Jill. You're a great mother and a great daughter. You bring me so much joy and your kids are marvelous!

Jill, tell Mary Kate that her poem is fantastic, and that I always knew she had a writer's heart in her. I love your kids, and I think they got lucky in the mom department.

I agree with you on Motherhood. And just a little bit ago, Seth called out to me for the 20th time from his bed. I said, "WHAT???" in a not-so-nice voice and he said, I just wanted to say that you are special. Then I felt bad for being cranky. Kids are funny little buggers.
